About the Event
On Friday, March 1, Mari Chuy’s Mexican Kitchen in Midtown will host a multicultural celebration and storytelling fiesta starting at 4 p.m. Community members are invited to celebrate multiculturalism while enjoying authentic Mexican flavors at a 10 percent discount. In addition, attendees are encouraged to share their own multicultural and geographically mobile stories at an open mic until 6 p.m. Throughout February, the PRSSA Nevada Bateman Competition team is running the POP CULTURS campaign to celebrate Reno’s culturally in-between community. The multicultural fiesta at Mari Chuy’s is a key component of a national contest organized by PRSSA to amplify awareness for CULTURS Magazine and its commitment to cultivating an inclusive campus and community environment where students and northern Nevadans feel understood and appreciated for their multiethnic, multicultural, mixed race and geographically mobile backgrounds. Mari Chuy’s Mexican Kitchen founder and head chef, Jesus “Chuy” Gutierrez, was born in Michoacán, Mexico, but grew up in Northern Nevada–making him geographically mobile. Chuy has always had a vision of bringing the rich culture and history of Mexico to Reno. The meals Chuy and his wife Maria (the “Mari” of Mari Chuy’s) create come from the soul, with each dish crafted to please both the eye and stomach. From old-world recipes of simple farm food to more sophisticated delicacies, Mari Chuy’s has a reputation for fresh ingredients and authentic Mexican flavors.
