Time and Place: Paintings by Julie Himel

Stremmel Gallery is pleased to present Place and Time, an exhibition of new paintings by Julie Himel, on view from April 10 – May 10, 2025. The display of colorful landscapes, inspired by the Sierra Nevada, will mark the second show for Himel at Stremmel Gallery. The artist’s reception will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2025. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

One of Canada’s most prominent landscape painters, Julie Himel’s contemporary imagery strikes a tone reminiscent of Canada’s famed Group of Seven. Himel’s ability to capture light, juxtaposed with bold and vivid colors, creates a visual dialogue between abstract and representational. There’s a balance in her landscapes: the aggressive nature of the paint contrasts with the serenity of the subject matter.
